曹娥碑 Commemorate of Taso-eh

【作者介紹】

王羲之（303年—361年），字逸少，漢族，東晉時期著名書法家，有「書聖」之稱。祖籍琅琊（今屬山東臨沂），後遷會稽山陰（今浙江紹興），晚年隱居剡縣金庭。

Inside Story

This epigraph was written in memory of Tsao-eh who was very filial to her father. Tsao-eh’s father was drown in a river and his body was unable to be found for many days. She was only fourteen years old then, she walked along the river trying to find her father for days and nights. After seven days she jumped into the river. Three days later, her body holding her father’s body floated out of the water. In order to commemorate her daughterly action people made a tombstone for her to praise her filial behavior.
