這是他索畫的書信。信中提到他曾經請南雲作畫，南雲也答應了，但是王直也知道因為南雲工作繁多，沒有太多時間好好地作畫，就想打消索畫的念頭，但王直實在是太喜歡南雲的作品，於是改變主意，如果沒時間作畫，那就改寫八個隸書字體的字給王直，而要字的就是「清心省事，慎行謹言」。 |

|
前者嘗面請作圖書，蒙金諾。然知公不暇，故欲作復止。又自念非得大手，不足為鄙人之光，是以奉瀆。若果不暇，為請書其文亦幸甚。更求隸書八字：清心省事，慎行謹言。只一對，只四指大一字為好。數數千求，自媿無以奉報，千萬恕亮。 直拜白南雲郎中相公至契 |

A request letter to Nanyun for his painting

Inside Story promised him the painting, he thought about giving up the request as Nanyun had so much work to do and there was not enough time to paint. On the other hand he was so fond of his works that he changed his mind, instead he asked for eight official script characters, which are “remain tranquility in mind, talk and behave prudently”.
