A special letter to Pohsiu

A special letter to Pohsiu

Mi Fu, Sung Dynasty

Inside Story

This letter talked about the same matter as the previous one. It was about sending Pohsiu to buy Wang Hsichich’s calligraphy. Mi Fu was worried that Pohsiu would buy a wrong piece because he had never seen the piece before. Therefore he wrote this letter to him to describe the look of the calligraphy. In the end of the letter Mi Fu even drew out the appearance of the calligraphy according to his memory. However he could not remember the first part so he replaced the characters with some curves and made a note saying “do not remember”. For this reason, the letter had become the most extraordinary letter passing around over the last thousand years.
