根據米芾的序言，是米芾看到高君素收藏了很多古人畫馬的畫，米芾看到這些畫後，覺得這些都是好馬，是宋代所沒的，而有所感歎，因此寫下〈天馬賦〉。賦中用文字去形容畫中的馬的形態、精神，讓人可以從文字中去聯想那畫中的馬是多麼高大、多麼地有精神。米芾的感歎不是沒有原因的，因為宋代是國力不弱，但就只有軍事非常弱的時代，偏偏這個時代，正是許多北方及西北方邊疆民族逐漸強盛的時代，因此，從北宋開始，就吃了不少敗仗，雖然也有幾個會帶兵打仗的將軍，但畢竟是少數，而且還常常被小人陷害，因此，在這樣的局勢中，米芾才會有這樣的感觸。 |

Inside Story According to preface, the article was written by Mi Fu after he saw an ancient painting of horses collected by Kao Chunsu. He regretted that those good horses could not be found in his time again, thus he wrote this article “The horse ode”. In the article he shaped out the look and spirit of the horses by words. While reading the words used to describe the horses, one could Image how handsome and vigorous those horses were.
